A Windy Day

Sir James Galway: The Man With The Golden Flute

Sir James Galway: Living Legend of the Flute from Knight Classical on Vimeo.

Today we warmed up by exploring the rhythm in our names. We looked at varying  note lengths and students, Daniel and Daire demonstrated their wind instruments live in class. Bravo Daire and Daniel!

Elements of Music  Structure: We took a closer look at the structure of an Irish dance tune with the polka, The Britches Full of Stitches played live in class on Sax and flute.  (TIMBRE) Senior Group worked out the structure Two parts  AA BB -8 bar phrases. We made a whole class ensemble adding a rhythmic ostinato on drum  and pulse on body percussion

Close up on Woodwind. We had a close up look  at a saxophone and a wooden flute. We examined a clarinet reed. and there was time for some students to have a go at getting a note from last week's instrument of the week- the trumpet. It is not as easy as it looks.

Singing:We worked on two songs from Singing Sherlock. Group 1 looked at Teddy Bear Rock and Roll Group 2 worked out the note lengths in Mountain Song

Ten Pieces: Listening and Responding: Our listening piece today was from the 20th century: Hoe Down from the ballet Rodeo by American Composer Aaron Copland. Rodeo by Aaron Copland   Track 4 on CD Ten Pieces Mix
